Using the REMI model, the University Research Center at Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning sought to analyze the economic impacts associated with the implementation of a lottery in the state of Mississippi. The study attempted to answer two central questions: 1) How much revenue would a lottery generate for the state of Mississippi? and 2) Is a lottery good economic policy? Two scenarios were incorporated into the analysis, one being an estimation of $338 million in Lottery Ticket Sales and the other an estimation of $500 million in Lottery Ticket Sales. Researchers detailed the economic costs and benefits of a lottery as well as the potential social impacts.
